Honeywell DH70W 70-Pint Portable Dehumidifier
Honeywell’s DH70W 70 pint portable dehumidifier model is a good machine that removes impressive amounts of humidity from any living space (the unit works equally well in small and large rooms). It comes with numerous features we are used to see in good dehumidifier models like the ones we have rated and listed on our homepage, and backed up by a well-known and reputable brand like Honeywell.

However, despite its functionality and good performance, this model also has a few shortcomings and design flaws that you need to factor in if you consider buying it. We will talk about these problems in our cons section below. But first, let us talk about the features and advantages of DH70W.

  • 70 pint capacity (per day)
  • Energy Star rated
  • Digital humidistat that measures current humidity and activates/deactivates the unit as required
  • Auto-restart
  • 2 fan speeds
  • 24-hour timer
  • Low temperature operation (as usual, down to 41 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • LED digital display with room temperature and humidity indicators and timer
  • Water level indicator
  • Full tank warning
  • Auto shut-off
  • Continuous drain option (uses gravity, does not include a built-in pump)
  • Washable air filter

  • One of the first things that draw our attention was that DH70W actually shuts off the fan (instead of only the compressor) when the humidity reaches the set level, making the dehumidifier much quieter than most models during the off cycles
  • DH70W does an impressive job in terms of moisture removal; its performance is worthy of its 70-pint rating
  • Temperature and humidity display, the full tank alert (the unit emits a clearly audible sound when the tank is full), auto-restart and auto-shut off provide convenience and safety
  • The washable air filter is convenient, easy to use and filters out hairs and small objects effectively, adding another layer of utility to the dehumidifier
  • We found the water tank well-designed and easy enough to remove
  • The caster wheels and side handles are nicely made and provide maximum portability for an otherwise heavy unit

  • One of the biggest problems with Honeywell DH70W is the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the humidistat. If you use the machine in automatic mode, you will find that the humidity reading is quite off, especially during the off cycles. We suspect this is partly due to the fact that the humidistat is placed near the water tank. The moisture inside the machine (near the tank) confuses the humidistat, causing it to turn on the fan and compressor needlessly
  • If you don’t have a suitable floor drain to use the continuous drainage option, you will have to empty the water tank a few times every day (up to 5 times). With that said, you will encounter the same problem with any dehumidifier if you don’t have/use a floor drain
  • DH70W is a bit loud for our taste when it’s working at full power, but it kind of compensates for it with extra quietness during the off cycles

All things considered, we think that Honeywell DH70W 70-Pint Energy Star Portable Dehumidifier is an above average dehumidifier that can provide good value for your money. In terms of performance, it is on par with the best 70 pint models out there like Frigidaire FAD704DWD. However, problems like the inaccuracy of the humidistat cause the machine to receive lower ratings.
